Unfortunate Thing

Here is the tale of Unfortunate Thing
Whom I found in our garden shed
He’s seven foot two, with shiny black nose
And horns on the top of his head
Unfortunate Thing wore a fine suit of scales
Which hadn’t been polished for years
All covered in dust and speckles of rust
From endless showers of tears

Reclined on a large sack of compost
A vision of gloom and despair
Alone in the shadows, sat sobbing
Needing some comfort and care
“Poor Thing” said I, “What’s the problem –
whatever is troubling you?”
And proceeded to give him a cuddle

That scuttle upon the moonlit sands
The neap tide calls them out tonight
To swim the seas to far off lands

‘Tis a strange, alluring little creature
Whose pearly shell upon its back
Is considered its most charming feature

But tread you carefully as you go
They’re quick to startle, fast to flee
And should they hear your heavy step
Will scurry fast towards the sea

Take with you a lidded box
Lined with feathers deep inside
And if you chance to capture one
Place it in and let it hide

And as you bring it back to me
Sing a gentle lu

I Had a Fish...

I Had a fish...

At the fair the other day
In amongst the stalls
Was one where you could win a fish
By throwing yellow balls

I decided then and there a fish
Would make a lovely pet
And wondered with my 80 pence
How many I could get

After several losses
On my fourth attempt
I won a tiny little fish
That swam around all bent

I kept him in a shiny bowl
With weed and coloured stone
I thought he looked quite happy
In his new and shiny home

But a week or so later
His scales were not so gold
And Mummy said my crooked fish
Was now struck down with mould

I didn’t know what I could do
To help my little friend
I knew no fis

I Had a Slug...I had a slug...

I had a slug, it was my pet
I kept him in a jam jar
It got depressed, began to fret
Because he couldn't crawl far

I kept it on the windowsill
'Till one hot sunny day
I found him stiff and all dried up
Poor slug had passed away.

And now my sluggie haunts me
He floats around my room
He points accusing horns at me
and threatens me with doom

'Why did you leave the lid on?'
He whispers in my ears
His slimy face all sorrowful
With small, wet sluggie tears

And now my nights are haunted
Slug’s vengeance will not cease
Though he had a Christian burial
My slug won't rest in peace

Lego and RainbowsIt used to be simpler.
Workloads were lego
and gameboys were bigger.
The world was greater
when rainbows were an end
to be followed, by the intrepid
and yelling storm-chaser.

How to spend my gains,
when youth drifts further
and further away?
On more lego? The toyseller
would laugh and say
I was mad. So I shall show
to the world that I am old-
Swear on my quietly thinning soul,
at rainbow's end I found no gold.

Holding pictures of people with ridiculous names
Toys from a childhood only just gone
With lingering laughs hanging gleefully on
Outside, looking in was an envious moon
Who longed to slip in and

Little DreamerIn the corner of the garden is the tree where dreamers meet
So sleep little dreamer sleep...

Let sweet slumber take you little dreamer close your eyes
And I'll meet you in the garden where we'll dance with fireflies
We'll search for fallen stars that have crashed into the sea
We'll outrun the sands of time, little dreamer, you and me
Capturing moonbeams in bottles, sending wishes on the breeze
Lying back in the long grass under the canopy of trees
Watching as night fades away and the sun begins to rise
Now it's time to leave the garden little dreamer open your eyes

The once-ler threw the seed,
so perfect and so round,
and the seed let off a quiet sound,
as it bounced its way to the boy,
now having a heart full of joy,
as if it was the best treasure ever found.

Plague- Chapter Twelve ExcerptIke pounded the solid clay wall as hard as he could. “Damnit!” He screamed. He leaned into the wall and huffed as blood mingled with the dust. “This isn’t working.”
Scraping what was left of his fingernails over the dirt and rocks, he tried once again to find footholes to continue upward. His leg prickled madly, sending jolts through him every time he lifted it. It was losing feeling, fast. He had to get to the top of the wall before he couldn’t move it anymore, or else he was sure to fall. Ike was so high up that if he fell he would die, but he still had twice as much to climb.
With his uninjured leg, he found another place to put his foot. He rested it there, and patted the wall above him for a ledge to grab. With all his weight on the injured leg, he felt faint, he was sure he would fall before he could make it another foot up the wall.
“Just keep going. Come on, Claudia needs you.”
Ike blinked hard and inhaled deeply. He felt

The Deep, Dark Forest

In the deep dark forest,

amidst the children's cries,

crickets are constantly chirping

their soft lullabies.

In the deep dark forest,

where the only light comes

in green and white

with a cackle and a hum

In the deep dark forest,

where the shadows abide

deep within the monster's cave,

you'll be terrified.

In the deep dark forest,

all the willows weep

for lost loves and broken hopes;

Promises they couldn't keep.

In the deep dark forest,

depending on what you see,

the light of dawn may be your hope.

Or rather in darkness, would you be?

I can't remember when I wrote this, probably almost a year ago. I liked it though, so I spruced it up and threw it on google docs. There it sat until now! I gave it another touching up, and I think I'm quite satisfied with it. I read it to my little sisters, since I kinda wrote it to be kid-ish, and they really liked it.
